Pirates calls out ‘thuggish behaviour’ as Chiefs go 10 points clear
Updated | By Valerie Robinson
Kaiser Chiefs beat Soweto rivals Orlando Pirates 3-2 in a pulsating Soweto derby at the FNB Stadium on Saturday. But the focus post-match was not on the players’ football skills but on what Pirates coach Rhulani Mokwena described as “thuggish behaviour” by Chiefs.

Tempers flared in the closing stages and pushing
and shoving led to Chiefs' defender Eric Mathoho being red-carded and three
other players booked.
“I have a player bleeding now with a broken nose because he was punched in the face,” Mokwena told reporters after the game.
“Kaiser Chiefs are good enough to beat us on tactics, on personnel, a well-coached team. Excellent. But not on thuggish tackles, not on boxing…We don’t train boxing.”

Daniel Cardoso’s 84th-minute penalty took Chiefs 10 points clear of second-place Mamelodi Sundowns, who play Golden Arrows in Durban Sunday.
Chiefs, who are chasing a first league title in five seasons, last won a Premiership match against Pirates in 2014.
