Probe concluded into two ‘naked patients’ at Pelonomi hospital

The Free State Health Department says no action will be taken against two psychiatric patients following an incident of a sexual nature at Pelonomi hospital in Bloemfontein.

A medical officer at the emergency ward walked in on the woman and man, who were both naked, on Tuesday night.
Spokesperson Mondli Mvambi confirmed the incident, but denied reports that a security guard stationed at the block was sleeping on duty.
“The medical officer intervened and found the two patients on top of each other, and they were separated. There is no complaint or charge laid because the two are people without capacity to consent as they are in observation area for 72-hours in a casualty ward before any referrals.
“There is no proof that there was any penetrative sex, and the department has decided to handle this matter internally because there is no complaint, and the matter has been concluded. We have tested both patients for any transmission of sexually transmitted diseases.”
