Stuart Baxter 'feeling comfortable’ on return as Kaizer Chiefs coach

Stuart Baxter has returned for the second spell as head coach of Kaizer Chiefs.

The club announced Baxter’s return on Wednesday following the departure of Gavin Hunt last month.

The former Bafana Bafana coach has returned to Naturena on a two-year deal.

The 67-year old British coach will work with Arthur Zwane and Dillion Shepard as assistant coaches.

"I am feeling very comfortable with the decision to come back here and since leaving Chiefs, I have been all over the world," says Baxter.

"This is about me trying to find a better balance and rebuilding the culture around Kaizer Chiefs and this time it will be a lot of expectation and the league has improved because there is no team which will be a pushover."

Amakhosi’s trophy cabinet has been bare over the last six seasons with the likes of Steve Komphela, Giovanni Solinas, Ernst Middendorp, and the recent hopeful Gavin Hunt all failing to return the Soweto giants to the top of the pile.

Baxter moved to defend his predecessors’ work at Chiefs.

"I think it is important that people understand that the coaches before me are not bad coaches, some of them are good coaches in the country and I am not here to dismantle that."

The club had poor campaign as it finished the 2020/21 season in eight position.
