Team SA given a stylish send-off

With just under two weeks to go before Rio 2016, South Africa's Olympic and Paralympic teams were given a stylish send-off on Friday evening at a lavish banquet at Emperor's Palace.

400 metre World Champion, Wayde van Niekerk - who is still abroad - was named as the Team SA flag bearer for the opening ceremony, while javelin thrower Zanele Situ - who qualified for her fifth consecutive Paralympics - was named as the flag bearer for the Paralympics.


Situ, struck down by TB in 1982 at the age of just 12, is a two-time Paralympic gold medallist...


The 2016 Rio Olympics marks the debut of Rugby Sevens. The 15 man code, however, did feature at the 1924 Olympics.


Seabelo Senatla is part of a 12-man Team SA Sevens squad, with Francois Hougaard and Chris Dry also included as back-up, but will not be staying in the Olympic Village...



Trevor Cramer also caught up with Banyana Banyana captain Janine van Wyk. 


The 29-year-old defender will compete her second Olympics, having also been in London in 2012.


The SA women's soccer team open their account against Sweden on 3 August...
