The crash left two people, the pilot and a passenger, injured.

Speaking to Jacaranda FM News, an eyewitness described how he saw the helicopter falling from the sky.

"I heard a helicopter and it sounded weird. I jumped out of the car, looked behind the houses and I saw it falling out of the sky like a rock. It span around, disappeared behind the houses and [I] waited for the noise."

The witness, who prefers to stay anonymous, says the pilot managed to avoid crashing into any of the nearby homes.

"The helicopter driver did so well because I believe he tried to miss the houses here because there's a lot of houses. He did well to put it down softly. But it seems like the people got hurt in the helicopter. One person was unconscious and I think the other person did climb out."

Tshwane emergency services spokesperson Charles Mabaso says the military chopper had caught fire - injuring two people.

"There is two critically injured people at the moment being attended to by the emergency services. Emergency services, the South African National Defence Force, South African Police Service are on scene.

"The plane is still at the estate and it will not be removed until all necessary investigations have done around the area."
