Are you dating in the workplace or thinking of it?

Well, it's not the easiest, but there are a few things you need to know before you do go ahead.

Dating a colleague or your boss can be detrimental to your career, but on the plus side, we all have to face the reality that it could probably also get you ahead.

According to The Date Report, dating a coworker or boss or colleague can lead to unbearable awkwardness, a tarnished professional reputation, and even job-loss.

Martin and Tumi stumbled upon a few tips that are very important when it comes to dating in the work environment:

1. Don't treat work as extended quality time

It’s important to keep your at-work relationship as professional as possible: unless you’re at lunch or in a group setting, try to limit the non-work related small talk to after hours.

2. Send flirty text messages to each other

Communicating via email can be risky, so resort to texting each other. It's faster and more intimate.

3. Don't go to lunch together every day

There are always many eyes at lunch. Think of it as a watering hole in the African Savannah. You don't want to become 'that couple' people start referring to.

4. If one of your manages the other, just don't date

Never date or sleep with your boss, or manager. It will result in an awkward situation for both of you and could bring upon sexual harassment claims.

5. Be wary of keeping it 'secret'

You might think you’re keeping your relationship completely secret, but there’s no real way to ensure this. Keep this in mind if having an affair in your office could be a 'fireable' offense.

6. Once it's a relationship, go public ASAP

If you and a coworker actually start dating, and plan on being a couple for a while, stop keeping it a secret. Tell your bosses/HR Representatives/whoever needs to know, and assure them that you’ll continue to keep your work life as professional as possible.

7. Have a break-up contingency plan

It's always important to have a thought out plan if things don't work out. As weird as it may seem, it’s super helpful to discuss what you'll do if and when things don’t work out.

8. Make out in the elevator

Secretly making out in the elevator at work and then stopping the second you get to your floor is a fantasy everyone has, and you have the opportunity to make it happen. Take advantage, on behalf of the rest of us.

9. Your career comes first

Anything that might make you look unprofessional should be avoided at all costs, so don’t engage in PDA, don’t let your relationship become the center of office gossip, etc.

10. Maybe just go for it

You know it’s smarter to not do it. You know what you’re risking. But if you’re still tempted to hook-up with a cute coworker, might as well go for it: you only live once.

So, after reading these tips, are you still going to be dating in the workplace?
