Queen Elizabeth II has died, Buckingham Palace announces.
Buckingham Palace has announced that Queen Elizabeth II has died.
Her Majesty was the United Kingdom's longest-serving monarch.
"The Queen died peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon. The King and The Queen Consort will remain at Balmoral this evening and will return to London tomorrow."
Her Majesty was 96.
The Prince of Wales is expected to take the throne as King, while his wife, Camilla Parker Bowles, will be known as Queen Consort.

The Queen was born Elizabeth Alexandra Mary Windsor, in Mayfair, London, on 21 April 1926.
