An electricity bill of R159,000 shocks a Pietermaritzburg pensioner

Pietermaritzburg pensioner Buks Jordaan received a R159,000 electricity bill and received no help from his local municipality when he queried the error. It then escalated to over R200,000 the following month. Breakfast with Martin Bester spoke to Jordaan about the shocking error.

Buks Jordaan, who is a pensioner, received a R159,000 electricity bill and received no assistance from his local municipality when he raised the issue.

In the following month, the bill soared to more than R200,000.
He said he paid R5,000 towards the bill, which is generally what he is billed every month and continued to seek help.

Breakfast with Martin Bester spoke to Jordaan about the shocking error.
"I've sent an email but nothing happened after that. But this is not the first time. Last year I received a bill of R42,000."
