Eskom CEO clears up load shedding forecast on Breakfast with Martin Bester

Will South Africa experience load shedding during lockdown or in winter? Eskom's Andre de Ruyter provides clarity.

On the morning of 14 May 2020, energy expert Ted Blom said that South Africans could be hit hard by load shedding before the end of June 2020. 

André de Ruyter offered clarity on the forecast for Eskom and load shedding on Breakfast with Martin Bester

De Ruyter currently serves as the Group Chief Executive (GCE) of Eskom Holdings SOC Ltd.

Over a 30-year career, de Ruyter has plied his trade both locally and internationally in various portfolios in the energy space. 

South Africans are concerned about the power supply during the lockdown and the winter season approaching.

De Ruyter admits that the troubled utility has done a significant amount of short-term maintenance, while making use of the unfortunate lockdown to do catch-up maintenance.

"Mining used to be a big customer over the past decade but has declined as mining has declined," de Ruyter responded.
