Here's the real meaning behind the name of popular treat M&M's

Lovers of the delicious and chocolatey treat M&M's were surprised after discovering the real meaning of the popular sweet's name.

Although the popular treat M&M's has been around since 1941, many are still not aware of the actual meaning behind the brand's name. 

M&M's are a candy-coated chocolate treat that comes in a wide range of different varieties and flavours and has become a popular treat in households worldwide. 

The Breakfast with Martin Bester team also looked at the real meanings of a few other words.

According to the New York Post, many assumed that the name referred to the 'mmm' sound people would make when eating the American "candy". 

The real meaning behind the brand name seems to be much simpler, as the name was, in fact, inspired by the founders' names. 

Forrest E. Mars Sr. - the founder of Mars, and Bruce Murrie, the son of Hershey Chocolate’s president William F. R. Murrie, are the founders of the popular treat, which inspired the two Ms in the name.
