The Labubu craze is here, and it's taking the world by storm!

These small dolls with big eyes and sharp-looking teeth come from the Chinese brand Pop Mart, and they're causing a serious stir among celebrities and fans everywhere.

Even celebrities like Rihanna and Cher have jumped on the craze, having been spotted with these little monsters.

South African singer Irene-Louise van Wyk also showed off her unboxing of her very own Labubu:

Selling for around $40 (approximately R700), Labubus are released in limited batches and sold in "blind boxes," meaning you don't know which one you're getting until you open it.

According to The Citizen, it's the surprise element that fans absolutely live for.

The phenomenon has grown so much that people have been warned that in-person sales in some places, like London, have been paused due to concerns that things could get out of hand.

What makes Labubus so irresistible?

"They're a little ugly, totally unique, and super relatable," says interior designer Lucy Shitova.

Thanks to the power of social media, these fuzzy creatures have become a global phenomenon.

China may not be the first place people think of when it comes to fashion-forward or luxury exports, especially compared to neighbours like Japan and South Korea, but that's changing.

Pop Mart is part of a new wave of cool Chinese brands making their mark, with others like Shushu/Tong, Marchen, and Songmont also turning heads internationally.

Experts say it's a sign that China could soon shake off the old "cheap and cheerful" stereotype and start owning the global spotlight in design and branding.
