Matric 2019: Top 10 best performing schools in South Africa

Based on the most distinctions per learner from 2019's matric results - here are the best schools in South Africa.

The Department of Basic Education announced on Tuesday that the 2019 national matric pass rate has risen to 81.3%.

It is a 3.9% improvement from 2018.

Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga revealed the much-anticipated results in Midrand on Tuesday evening.

BEST RESULTS

The province with the best results was the Free State, with a pass rate of 88.4% - a 0.9% improvement from the previous year.

In second place is Gauteng with 87.2%, followed by the North West's 86.8%, Western Cape with 82.3%, KwaZulu-Natal at 81.3%, Mpumalanga with 80.3%, Northern Cape at 76.5%, Eastern Cape at 76.5%, and Limpopo with 73.2%.

The top 10 best schools were announced and Gauteng takes five of top 10 spots.

  1. Eden College, Durban: 3.971 distinctions per learner.
  2. Beth Jacobs Girls High School, Johannesburg: 3.857 distinctions per learner.
  3. Afrikaanse Hoër Meisieskool, Pretoria: 3.588 distinctions per learner.
  4. The Torah Academy Primary and High School, Johannesburg: 2.913 distinctions per learner.
  5. Star College, Cape Town: 2.827 distinctions per learner.
  6. Al-Falaah College, Durban: 2.805 distinctions per learner.
  7. Inkamana High School, Vryheid (KZN): 2.640 distinctions per learner.
  8. Al-Asr Educational Institute, Centurion: 2.571 distinctions per learner.
  9. Clarendon Girls High School, East London: 2.486 distinctions per learner.
  10. Central Islamic School, Centurion: 2.455 distinctions per learner.
