This is the most popular petrol station in SA
Updated | By Jacaranda FM
Which petrol station is your favourite?

Petrol stations are part of the daily lives of millions of South Africans, whether filling up their cars, grabbing a quick snack, or even fixing a tyre puncture.
Whether you're commuting long distances or just travelling to and from work, we all rely on the services of a petrol station.
The best part is that South African petrol stations are known for their efficient service, convenience, and friendly petrol attendants, who often make headlines and trend on social media.

But out of all the options we have, which one is South Africa's favourite?
A recent study by Lightstone Auto reveals that Engen is currently the favourite petrol station franchise in South Africa.
Although the research focused specifically on petrol stations in Gauteng, the findings are considered broadly representative due to the province’s significant population.
Gauteng has around 16 million residents and the highest number of registered vehicles in the country.
According to TopAuto, Gauteng accounts for over 3.3 million of South Africa's 8 million passenger cars, or roughly 41% of the national total, based on the Natis database.
The analysis examined data from more than 600 service stations in and around Johannesburg, as well as travel behaviour from an additional 5,000 locations across the country, based on where Gauteng residents typically refuel.

The data shows Engen as the preferred choice among drivers in 2025, capturing about 30% of fuel stop visits.
It was followed by Shell (18%), BP (16%), Sasol (14%), Astron Energy (11%), and TotalEnergies (9%). The remaining 2% of visits were to privately owned fuel stations.
Several Engen sites were particularly popular, including Oxford Service Centre, M1 North and South, My City Sandton Court, and Midway Mews Convenience Centre.
Other high-traffic stations noted in the report were BP's Grayston Drive location, Shell's Glenhove and Cosmo City Convenience Centres, and Sasol's Waterfall station.
