The one SA province that has almost no load reduction
Updated | By Breakfast with Martin Bester
Eskom has revealed that there is one South African city that experiences almost no load reduction.

The Western Cape in South Africa is said to have virtually no load reduction.
According to Eskom, this is because the province sees fewer illegal electricity connections, less meter bypassing, and reduced theft and vandalism.
Daily Investor reported that load reduction was introduced in 2020 as an attempt to protect electricity infrastructure in specific areas.

Load reduction is different from load shedding, as it is a preventative measure aimed at protecting equipment and preventing more extensive outages.
Electricity in certain areas is temporarily cut off to prevent overloading.
Load shedding, on the other hand, is implemented when there is insufficient capacity to meet national demand.
According to Daily Investor, excessive electricity consumption, illegal electricity connections, meter bypassing, theft, and vandalism all contribute to overloading the electricity grid.

Eskom found that Gauteng experiences the highest level of load reduction in the country.
Mpumalanga ranked second, followed by Limpopo.
The Western Cape, Eastern Cape, and Northern Cape see the lowest amount of load reduction.
