Was this some sort of foreshadowing or just a coincidence?

Social media users were sent into a frenzy after a video shared on X showed Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula, the former Speaker of Parliament, leaving her house in Bruma, presumably on her way to hand herself over to authorities over corruption allegations.

In the video, a huge snake could be spotted near the politician's house as she was leaving on Thursday morning.

Many social media users shared their theories surrounding the sight, saying that it could be a form of foreshadowing of her fate.

According to Jacaranda FM News, Mapisa-Nqakula resigned on Wednesday from her two positions in Parliament, effective immediately, after she was named by a witness for allegedly pocketing bribes worth more than R2-million from a prominent army contractor, while she was the Minister of Defence and Military Veterans.

She has denied the allegations.

In her letter to the Acting Speaker, Lechesa Tsenoli, she says the seriousness of the much-publicised corruption allegations against her dictates that she steps away from her position as speaker to preserve Parliament’s integrity.

"I have made this decision to uphold the integrity and sanctity of our parliament, an apex institution of our system of government, representing the people of South Africa as a whole," she said in the statement.

The Former National Assembly Speaker arrived at the Lyttelton police station in Centurion on Thursday morning to hand herself over.
