A video shared on Instagram by @pippa_brown00 has gone viral, showing a surprising moment during a school rugby match.

In the clip, one team suddenly drops to the ground and lies flat during a lineout, leaving viewers shocked and divided.

As the team's hooker prepares to throw the ball in, all players in the lineout hit the floor, lying flat on the grass.

According to the post, the team featured is Michaelhouse, the well-known all-boys boarding school located in the scenic Balgowan Valley, in the Midlands of KwaZulu-Natal.

Founded in 1896, Michaelhouse has a long tradition in academics and sport.

The video has since been widely shared across social media platforms, attracting both praise and criticism.

Some viewers applauded the creativity and boldness of the play, calling it "ingenious" and "unpredictable."

Others, however, questioned its legality and sportsmanship.

One commenter pointed out a possible rule violation: "It's illegal because the center was inside 10m before the lineout was over. A lineout is only considered complete if the ball crosses the 15-meter line, which means the center couldn't legally run in that early to catch it."
