"We have done something right" - Anti-apatheid hero & top judge Albie Sachs
Albie Sachs has been described as one of the best judges in the world. To celebrate Heritage Month, Sachs spoke to Rozanne McKenzie and Rob Forbes about the country's constitution and being the first judge of the Constitutional Court after 1994.
Albie Sachs is a South African lawyer and ANC activist who fought for the end of apartheid.
Sachs was in exile with fellow ANC members for 90 days. He was arrested again, with no explanation.
In 1994, after the first democratic elections, Sachs resigned from the ANC's National Executive Committee and was appointed by former President Nelson Mandela as the first judge of the Constitutional Court.
On 7 April 1988, Sachs opened the door to his car and it exploded. Sachs lost his right arm and vision in his left eye and a passerby was killed.
To celebrate Heritage Month, Jacaranda FM broadcast from Constitutional Hill and spoke to Sachs about South Africa's constitution and our heritage.
"I'm currently traveling to Armenia, they want to hear about our constitution.
"We have a beautiful constitution and if you are angry about the current government you have the choice to change it at the ballot box."
