One US woman, Bells Explores, has built a huge TikTok following on this type of content.
She "visits" countries worldwide on Google Earth, placing herself in various spots and trying to see how long it takes her to reach an "ugly" part of the country.
In one of her most recent videos, she virtually visited South Africa.

She travelled to Cape Town, the Kruger National Park, Klerksdorp, and Pretoria before landing in a part of Johannesburg, which ended the journey.

Unlike some of SA's more aesthetically pleasing parts, Marjorie Street left much to be desired.

However, the South Africans' response to the video was a highlight.
The comments are filled with viewers who were either unsurprised or who let out a sigh of relief as they compared "ugly" areas.
