BACKGROUND:
9-year old Nkosinathi Feni from Lichtenburg in North West loves going to school, but at the moment, he cannot go. His mother, Lindiwe has taken him out of school for now. Nkosinathi's eye-sight has deteriorated to such an extent, that he cannot see in class and the school does not have the facilities or people to help a child with such special needs. But, there is hope for Nkosinathi - his problem is reversible, because it is caused by cataracts - on both his eyes. The only obstacle now is the R52 000,00 needed for the operation - and obstacle his mother cannot overcome without help. Luckily, our very good friends at The Round Table are in the Good Morning Angels Studio with us!
ORIGINAL REQUEST:
Hi Guys
I believe this is a great case for your funds. This boy is 9 years old. He has bilateral cataracts (both eyes) that is affecting his vision. He can only see 6/60, which means he can see at 6 meters what you and I can see at 60! So the long and short is that he is basically blind because of the cataracts, that can be removed with a simple procedure. His vision loss is affecting his school work and will ultimately be the cause of illeteracy etc.
I have attahced 2 quotes for your referral. You will see on the one we have quoted for the IOL's (intra occular lenses) as well. I have contacted our supplier to see if they could possibly sponsor this, but cannot guarentee that they will be able to do so. Please note that the quote is only for the consumables that will be used in theatre. The surgeon and anaesthesiologist have agreed to offer their time and Centuruin Eye Hospital have offered the theatre time for free.
This procedure will cost a patient with a medical aid in the facinity of R26 000 (per eye), so you can understand why the mother cannot afford this very needed procedure for her child.
Please note that the surgeon has agreed to operate both eyes at the same time to reduce further medical costs as well as transport cost for the patient from Lichtenburg.
I look forward to hear from you!
Regards,
Suzanne
