Good Morning Angels Festive Edition: Helping a creche thrive in early childhood development

Good Morning Angels Festive Edition: Helping a creche thrive in early childhood development

Imbasa Mamoeketsi is a crèche in Muldersdrift run by the dedicated Kgomotso and her small staff. This is more than a day care facility, this is where the 45 children from as few months to six years, learn, play, eat and grow. Kgomotso does the best she can, with R200 per child per month. With a little help with educational toys, books, craft supplies and paint, she can do so much more.

Dear Angels

I established a reading club (called Enyakaza) at the Imbasa Mamoeketsi crèche in the Muldersdrift area because I saw the gap between my daughter’s development and knowledge, and children around her age who are less fortunate. I did so under the auspices of Nal’ibali when I saw an article on the work they do.

The crèche is owned and run by Kgomotso; she takes in little ones that range in age from a few months to six years of age.  Kgomotso and her small staff care for and feed around 45 children on R200.00 per child per month.  As you can imagine, resources are scarce.

Every two weeks Megan (a Montessori teacher) and I go to the crèche and we read the children a story and then we paint or make crafts.  We then provide the children with a snack.  They are wonderfully open and eager to learn!  I fund these activities entirely out of my own pocket.

I have two wishes for the crèche: one is to be able to have a Christmas party for the children, where each child could get a small gift. The other (and more important wish) would be to stock the crèche with some educational toys, puzzles, books and craft supplies like paint.  Kgomotso is unable to buy these supplies as all of the money she receives goes to salaries, food and the like.

Thank you so much for the opportunity to make a wish on behalf of Imbasa Mamoeketsi.

Warm regards

Lelaine Riche
