South Africa mourns loss of dog from Dulux adverts

The new year has started off on a somber note following news that Oscar, the dog who starred in adverts for Dulux, has passed away.

The ball of fluff is synonymous with the Dulux brand thanks to his adorable appearances in Dulux television adverts, with the first airing in 2009.

Oscar became so popular that he even started appearing in 'person' at hardware stores and shops across Gauteng, Mpumalanga, and KwaZulu-Natal. His cute mug also adorns all tins of the paint.

Sue Green, Oscar's owner, brought the cute pup to South Africa from Belgium in 2009, and his rise to fame started soon after his paws touched down on local soil.

Apart from his time in the spotlight for Dulux, Oscar also formed part of JOY Dogs. The initiative would see Oscar and other pups of his ilk visit those in need of some love and attention - including schools and homes for the elderly, mainly in Gauteng.

In an interview with Comaro Chronicle, Green said: “We miss Oscar and are proud of the many lives he touched and the people he made happy. We wish to thank Dr Dave Erasmus from Kibler Park Vet who looked after him and helped make his last few months comfortable."

The news of nine-year-old Oscar's passing sent shockwaves through social media, with many taking the time to share their memories of the unforgettable pup:
