A teenager named Peyton Boaz managed to pull himself out of the burning plane that killed both his parents.

According to The Sun, the light aircraft was on its way to a small airfield in Detroit before it crashed into a wasteland. A spokesperson for the Federal Aviation Administration told WXYZ Detroit that the pilot had reported problems with the plane's landing gear and fuel supply before the fatal crash.

Footage shows crowds gathered around the plane, watching in horror as it burst into flames, trapping the passengers inside. A man named Cordell Owens told WXYZ Detroit that he helped Peyton escape the flaming wreckage using an axe.

He told WXYZ Detroit: "The plane crashed and we start running towards it and it was a small plane and the flames were out of control. It started burning and the gentleman in the plane started hollering and screaming, and that was when I went to work."

In the video, the crowd can be heard helplessly lamenting the moment when suddenly, seventeen-year-old, Peyton Boaz rolled and ran out of the wreckage.

The teenager is reported to be in hospital receiving treatment for third degree burns.
