A video shared by the University Health Network shows exactly what happens to all the surgical implements after use.

In the video, it is explained that after use, the tools are sent to the MDRD (Medical Device Preprocessing Department).

Step one in the process involves all the tools being decontaminated where they are cleaned by hand in a sink before being cleaned with disinfectant.

Step two is the preparation process where the tools are placed in trays and inspected and then packaged for the next step.

The third step is the sterilisation process which involves the tools being placed in an oven at 134 degrees Celsius for 90 minutes.
