Polyamory is defined as "the practice of engaging in multiple romantic (and typically sexual) relationships, with the consent of all the people involved", according to the Oxford dictionary.

Willow Smith, who is the daughter of Jada Pinkett Smith and Will Smith, recently revealed that she is involved in a polyamorous relationship. The 20-year-old confirmed her relationship status on the Red Table Talk, which she co-hosts with her mom Jada Pinkett Smith and maternal grandmother Adrienne Banfield-Norrison.

Her grandmother was shocked at the revelation, but her mom seemed to be more understanding. Willow said while polyamory allows her to be in multiple relationships at once, she couldn't see herself wanting to "go past two partners".

"With polyamory, I feel like the main foundation is the freedom to be able to create a relationship style that works for you and not just stepping into monogamy because that's what everyone around you says is the right thing to do," she said.

"Also, doing research into polyamory," she added, "the main [reason] …why divorces happen is infidelity."
