Singer and songwriter Karen Zoid went through hell when she was addicted to heroin and cigarettes. 

Zoid decided to stop her addiction for a better life for herself. Thousands of South Africans are not allowed to buy cigarettes or alcohol due to the national lockdown. 

Zoid joined the Scenic Drive to share more about how she challenged herself to stop.

"I think it's ridiculous to take away cigarette and alcohol, however, we need to follow the rules, and we must accept it. 

"If you want to stop smoking, you must stop thinking about it. You must try and forget about it.”

"You must use your brain to do something else with your time.”

"Cigarettes are more difficult to quit than heroin. 

"Cigarettes will always be there - it's easy to find. I stopped smoking because Francois van Coke stopped, however, I went through hell," Zoid said. 

Three steps: 

1. Think about the cigarette as your ex.

2. Expect a week of hell.

3. Get your mind off it.
