How to ruin a vegan's day

How to ruin a vegan's day

Vegans are very quick to tell you just how much cleaner and healthier their diet is than yours, but this story proves that even those with the best intentions should do their research before speaking up.

Choosing an alternative diet, whether that is pescetarianism, veganism or banting, limits your fast food choices severely. Of course, many fast food chains these days are making an effort to include options that cater to everyone, but substituting ingredients can only take you so far.

One vegan woman who used to enjoy a sandwich from Subway for lunch regularly had her diet turned upside down when she was asked a simple question about mayonnaise. The Subway employee she spoke to shared the following story on Facebook:

The woman went in with the best intentions, getting a vegetable filling instead of one of the myriad of meat options on the menu because she was determined to stick to her diet even when ordering fast food. The employee, likely wanting to make sure the customer got exactly what they asked for, queried the woman's choice to add mayonnaise to her sandwich.

Mayonnaise, innocuous as it may seem, is not, in fact, vegan-friendly. The eggs used in making the condiment immediately disqualify it from the approved foods list. This may be common knowledge to someone working in the food service industry, but the woman buying the sandwich was apparently devastated by the news. She had been operating as a half-hearted vegan all along.

The post garnered attention from sympathetic fellow vegans who'd had similar experiences.

The question is: will the woman continue with her vegan lifestyle, or will she give up altogether now that she has inadvertently been exposed as a fraud?
