LOOK: Versace mansion on sale for over R1-billion

Italian designer Gianni Versace's mansion is for sale. The mansion was bought by Versace just two years before his brutal death in front of the mansion in 1997.

Gianni Versace was an Italian designer who was the founder of the luxury fashion brand, Versace, in 1978. The brand is known for its bold prints, colors, and Medusa-inspired logo.

In 1997, Versace was shot and killed on the front steps of his mansion by killer Andrew Cunanan. Cunanan died by suicide, shooting himself with the same gun he used to kill Versace. It was believed that Cunanan was a gay prostitute. 

Versace briefly met his killer at a nightclub in 1990 - seven years before his murder.

At the time of his death, Versace was one of the most high-profile fashion designers in the world, dressing the likes of Princess Diana, Madonna, and Elton John.

After he was murdered, his mansion became an instant tourist attraction.

The Netflix series, 'The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story', explores the murder of the designer.

The series stars Édgar Ramírez as Gianni Versace, Darren Criss as Andrew Cunanan, Ricky Martin as Versace's boyfriend, and Penélope Cruz and Donatella Versace. 

Versace is currently run by his sister, Donatella Versace

Interesting fact: Investigators still don’t know why Cunanan killed Versace.
