Oscar Pistorius named 'eighth coolest sportsperson in South Africa'
The 2018 Sunday Times Generation Next Survey results listed Oscar Pistorius as the eighth coolest sportsperson in South Africa.
The annual Sunday Times Generation Next survey is conducted to show marketers how the youth of South Africa "perceive and attribute value to brands in a highly competitive market".
This survey lets marketers know what the youth are buying, loving, thinking about, and aspiring towards.
Each year, celebrities and influencers are voted onto the list and vie for the chance to be named "coolest" in their category. One of the most hotly contested categories is that of "Coolest Local Sportsperson".

In 2018, on the list among the likes of Chad le Clos, Wayde van Niekerk, and Caster Semenya, sits one controversial figure - Oscar Pistorius. According to the twelve thousand youths surveyed, Oscar is the eighth coolest sportsperson in South Africa.
Observers online were baffled by the result, questioning exactly who voted and why Oscar was in the running in the first place?
