Beloved satirist, social activist and playwright Pieter-Dirk Uys is known for being in the know.
Over the years, he has regaled audiences with stories ripped from South Africa's headlines as well as his own life, each one filled with sharp wit and his signature brand of humour.

Whether it is Pieter or Tannie Evita Bezuidenhout in the room with you, you are guaranteed to have one of the most illuminating conversations of your life.

Rian himself would love the opportunity to pick Pieter's brain about one of his earlier plays, Die Van Aardes van Grootoor, which includes some very...interesting language that had Pieter in hot water when the play was first performed.

This year, Pieter returns to theatres with a retrospective of sorts called "When in doubt, say Darling".

The show covers 40 years of personal memories.

Pieter shared some fond memories about Winnie Madikizela-Mandela, with whom he had an interesting relationship.

As a vocal social activist, Pieter often found himself on the bad side of the Apartheid security police. But he never backed down, choosing instead to show courage in the face of intimidation, and channel any fear or worry he had into material for his shows.

"When in doubt, say Darling" is on at The Studio at the Pieter Toerien Theatre at Montecasino until 22 April.
