Joe van Niekerk, who was also known as 'Big Joe' is a former South African rugby player, from Port Elizabeth, who generally played either as a flanker or number 8.

In 2016, Van Niekerk moved to Costa Rica to start a new life away from rugby and the media.

His journey over the last six years has been one of explorating the consciousness, looking inward for answers and forgiving himself for all his past mistakes.

Van Niekerk is based in the southern part of Costa Rica at an organic farm called Rama Organica

For Van Niekerk, life is about reconnecting with the source and true nature of who he is and to allow himself to transcend all the negativity and hardships in this life.

"I walked away from fame and money because there was always a desire to know that there is more to life."

"My soul wanted a change - and I had to take on some spiritual principles."
