Shop forced to close after pasting 'googly eyes' on fish

Shoppers in Kuwait will now be looking at any meat or fish products very carefully before making a purchase.

An unidentified fish shop has had to shut down after owners were caught sticking plastic "googly eyes" onto fish in order to create the illusion of a fresh catch.

It is not known how long the shop had been running the ploy, but it is difficult to believe that it would have lasted very long as the photos "showed the eye slipping off the fish’s face, clearly showing a much more yellow eye beneath".

The incident also raises questions: do people frequenting the shop not know what a plastic eye looks like, or that the best way to tell the freshness of a fish is to look at its (real) eyes?
