Silo demolition ends in disaster in Denmark

Demolition of a silo in Denmark did not go according to plan, leaving parts of a public library damaged and shocking onlookers.

Following six months of planning, the Denmark explosives association set out to fell a silo in Vordingborg. Onlookers gathered to witness the spectacle, but ended up seeing much more than they were prepared for.

Once the explosives were set alight, the silo did indeed begin to crumble as planned. However, the structure fell in a different direction than anticipated.
Footage shows the silo falling on a nearby cultural centre and library. Staff from the library say aside from dust on the books, there is little structural damage to the building.
No one was injured during the incident.
An investigation into the cause of the explosive failure is ongoing.
