Siphokazi Mdlankomo: From domestic worker to TV chef

Television chef Siphokazi Mdlankomo is proof that your background should never stand in the way of your dreams.

Siphokazi Mdlankomo grew up in Tsolo, a small village outside Mthatha in the Eastern Cape. 

She was raised by a single mother.

She relocated to Cape Town where she worked as a domestic worker. While working as a domestic worker, she started preparing meals for her employers.

But after 14 years as an employee of a Jewish family, her fate changed when they encouraged her to enter cooking competitions.

Not only did she make it to the semi-final of ‘MasterChef' ‘in 2014, but she also had her own cooking show,  ‘Let’s Eat With Siphokazi’. 

She then released her debut cookbook, titled ‘My Little Black Recipe Book’.

Mdlankomo recently released her latest cookbook, titled 'Hearty Home Food With Sipho'.
