Thursday and Friday were declared public holidays for the four-day royal celebrations.

Longer bar opening hours, street parties, and other festivities commemorating the queen have been credited with lifting the gloom of Britain's growing cost-of-living issue for the time being.

As the lengthy weekend of festivities involving a variety of tributes around the UK ended, the multi-award-winning singer-songwriter capped off a day-long pageant lauding the 96-year-old monarch's record seven decades on the throne.

Sheeran is one of several "national treasures" who paid “special homage" to the queen in front of Buckingham Palace, marking a first for a British monarch.

The monarch made a surprise on-screen appearance at a music concert outside the palace on Saturday night, drinking tea with Paddington Bear, a popular children's book and film character.
