We had a very successful golf day and managed to raise between R110-120 000 for huis Kabod. This is a house in Witbank for abused and abandoned babies in Witbank.  I know that Good Morning Angels helped them in the past.  For our Golf day we had Nico Panagio, Koos van der Merwe, Johan Ferreira, Werner Swanepoel, Joe F and Pierre Breytenbach. We are also looking for a vehicle and Nissan Witbank will assist us in this. We would like to hand over the vehicle on GMA to Huis Kabod with the balance of the money that is left after we paid for the vehicle.

 

Background:

There is no person more vulnerable and defenseless than a baby. It however too often happens that babies are left with no care. Often times, babies are left at hospitals and the authorities need to place them in a place of safety before they can legally be put into care. That's where Kabod House comes in. This home, looks after destitute babies, before they are placed in more permanent care. The house is not short on commitment, love and a desire to give the best possible care, but the house is reliant on private funds to do its essential work .

The reason I’m knocking on your door for help is because you assisted me with a cause in 2007 when you set up your purple turtle at the Train race where you helped  a group of kids of Jabez House in Witbank. I arranged for a professional kid’s party, taking professional photos and some of the children took part in the train race. A girl that was placed in the house at that stage, had a dream realised when she met Maurice Carpidi in person. Jacaranda also gave this house a lot of on air publicity. Today, this house is well known. I would now like Kabod House to have the same exposure in Witbank. They are not well known yet.

 
Kabod house is situated at the Neo Doxa church in Witbank. The house is a place of safety for babies aged 0-18 months. They mostly take in orphaned babies (babies left in hospitals and found by police).

 
This house is part of the uMephi group, who is a nationwide organisation that established this house for the Emalahleni District. Babies are placed in the house until they are placed in a permanent home either through foster care, family members or adoption. Most of these babies are placed in the house for between 2-4 months. During these few months all their needs must be cared for. The cost of formula milk, nappies, medicines, medical bills, clothing, staff salaries and toiletries come to a staggering amount each month. They were however blessed with cots, heaters, a TV, blankets, towels etc when they opened.

 
Kabod House is reliant on private funding and funds from the community. They started an initiative to sell 2012 calendars to raise funds, but to date they have not received much response from the public.  

 
The Project Manager, Talita Brits has truly touched my heart with the great work that she does in helping this house to keep these babies cared for and healthy. The task of ensuring 0-18 month old orphaned babies is difficult enough, without having the constant worry of funding.  

 
If you could find a sponsor to assist with some of the monthly costs or a lump sum donation, I will definitely sleep better at night. We sometimes take the things we have for granted. We worry about our next holiday, the car’s new tyres and your kitchen makeover or whether we’ll be able to afford that Spur kids party when it’s birthday month. I’ve stopped worrying about this, and I’m grateful for the fact that I can afford by son’s nappies, pay his school fees, give him a fresh cup of milk every day and, on cold and windy days, like today, have the option of dressing him in something a little warmer.
 
I’ve attached a letter from the house as insurance that they are a registered organisation and with more information regarding their cause.
 
Some suggestions that I have are:

•         Paying the monthly salary of a staff member for a certain period of time (the salaries alone amount to about R 10,000 per month, they currently have 5 staff members that work shifts to take care of ±12 babies at any one given time)

•         Finding a company that will be able to provide this house with consumables like baby foods, nappies, toiletries etc. Even if these goods are slightly damaged but still usable.

•         A lump sum amount or in the form of vouchers.

•         If Jacaranda is in the Witbank area, make this cause part of their show to give some exposure and request local sponsors.

•         A company willing to buy the calendars and re-distribute them. This will also create a little more awareness.

 
The house is registered as a non-profit organisation and sponsors will be provided with a tax certificate which states the amount they’ve donated.  

 
I truly hope that this cause will be short listed.
