Jacaranda FM listeners become Mark Schmidt's angels
Updated | By Bronwyn Hardick

On Good Morning Angels yesterday, parents Russell and Cita Penn got the fundraising ball rolling for 11-month old Mark Schmidt, who needs a heart operation. The Penn's donated R30 000,00 in memory of their daughter, Sadie, who passed away from a rare heart condition on 10 July. The Good Morning Angels Fund matched this donation, with another R30 000,00. Mark's doctor told his mom, Jenny Schmidt that they needed around R200 000,00 for the operation and an additional R50 000,00 or so in case of complications, follow-up treatment and medication. Jenny had raised around R100 000,00 before - which meant that they needed another R90 000,00 or so to be safe. We asked our Jacaranda FM listeners to help - and you did!!!
Thank you to every person who responded with an offer - from the R50 pocket money from children and students, R500 from people who struggle to make ends meet, to the R10 000's and more from individuals and companies. It was simply overwhelming!!!
We basically got to past the required R200 000,00 mark with three donations:
Sue Smith from the Acorn Foundation pledged R12 000,00.
André Grobler and his family paid in R10 000,00.
Shaun and Adelene Trosello, who were in a similar situation as the Schmidt's when their daughter needed a heart operation 11 years ago, donated R25 000,00!
And, then Jaco Bredell from Vuka Crushers in Hazyview donated R40 000,00 to make sure that any eventuality was also covered.
Thank you for your generosity and willingness to help heal the hole little Mark's heart!
