While on holiday, Gilbert Pooley found himself using a lot of local modes transport to get around. He says that it surprised him how uncomfortable, unsafe and ill maintained the minibuses were and that’s where the idea to rope in students from Bocconi University, a private university in Milan, Italy, to assist him with some research with regards to the above mentioned issues came in.

They found that 15 million people make use of taxis on a daily basis; they contribute less than 5% towards the total road fatalities a year; the industry makes an economic contribution of around R40 billion a year and creates around 600 000 jobs (drivers, rank managers, ect).  Therefore making it a vital industry, no matter how misunderstood.

This morning they joined The Complimentary Breakfast on the line to see if he can convince people to be more understanding of taxis by going to work in a taxi.
