Countries South Africans can visit without a visa
Updated | By Charis Apelgren
Africa
Starting in the obvious home continent, there's obviously quite a large number of countries open to South Africans.
Countries you can enter with just a passport:
Benin, Botswana, Gabon, Lesotho, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Rwanda, Saint Helena, Senegal, Seychelles, Swaziland, Zambia and Zimbabwe
Additionally, there’s a couple of countries where you can get a visa upon arrival:
Cape Verde, Comores, Egypt, Ethiopia, Madagascar, Tanzania, Tongo, Tunisia and Uganda
South and Central America and the Carribbean
This is one area that is pretty much visa free for South Africans. There are a few exceptions, but generally you can travel without too many issues. Here's a list of everywhere.
Antigua and Barbuda, Argentina, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Brazil, British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Dominica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Falkland Islands, Grenada, Guatemala, Guyana, Haiti, Honduras, Jamaica, Montserrat, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and Grenadines, Turks and Caicos Islands, Uruguay and Venezuela.
Spoilt for choice!
Europe
Unfortunately, there’s only one or two countries here, so Europe is mostly a no-go zone unless you have a visa.
Ireland, Kosovo and Reunion Island (which is owned by France but is close to Mauritius in terms of actual location) are the only countries South Africans can visit without a visa. Still...Dublin is nice!
Asia
Countries you can enter with just a passport
Georgia, Hong Kong, Macau, Malaysia, Maldives, Philippines, Singapore, and Thailand.
Countries where a visa is granted upon arrival
Armenia, Bangladesh, Bahrain, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Nepal, Sri Lanka, South Korea, and Timor-Leste
Middle East
Countries you can enter with just a passport:
Israel and Jordan
Visa granted upon arrival:
Oman and Turkey
Oceania
Cook Islands, Fiji, Federated states of Micronesia, Nauru, New Zealand, Niue, Palau, Samoa, Tuvalu, Vanuatu
