Who knew after hours drinks were this fattening

South Africa has some of the heaviest drinkers in the world, with the World Health Organisation ranking it 29th in terms of litres of alcohol consumed per capita. But who would've thought it was this fattening.

South African's average daily kilojoule in take amounts to 8,700 kJ, however when it cocktails, wine, shooters and beers this makes up 6% to 8% of that intake.

Cocktails are the trouble makes as per usual, the kilojoule increse with the size of the drink. For example, a classic Mojito or a strawberry daiquiri can amount to over 1,000 kJs.
