Meet the taxi gaatjie (guard) bringing joy to pensioners
Updated | By The Late Show
Nothing quite warms our heart like a good deed.
A taxi guard, aka gaatjie, from Bonteheuwel in Cape Town has gone viral.
It comes after a Facebook post in which Yaseen Abrahams says he and his driver, Ashrag Cassiem, will be offering free rides to pensioners over the age of 70.

Speaking to Jacaranda FM, the 25-year-old gaatjie says: “Pensioners are living off grants which they have to use to pay rent and buy groceries. Why should I take their money?”
Thanks to these kind-hearted men, pensioners aged 70 and older can ride for free from 09:00 every day and after 10:00 on weekends, if they’re travelling to Athlone or Cape Town.
Abrahams appeals to other taxi drivers to open up their hearts and bring relief to the pensioners who use their services.
