Snoop Dog: Caitlyn Jenner is a science project

Snoop Dogg has branded Caitlyn a "science project" and insists her gender transition isn't worthy of all the attention it has received.

The 42-year-old rapper lashed out about the former Olympian - who was known as Bruce Jenner before her transition - and insisted she isn't worthy of being "major news" compared to the endeavours of other people, such as his friend Akon and his charity work.

Alongside a picture of Akon, Snoop wrote on Instagram: "Shout out to Akon! He is about to supply 600 million africans with solar power. Im really upset that this isn't major news but that science project bruce jenner is #Society.

"News flash. @akon tune in to ggn for some real news.(sic)"

Snoop's comments came as Tom Cruise's son Connor criticised the decision for Caitlyn to be honoured with the Arthur Ashe Courage Award at the 2015 ESPYS in July, arguing their were other topics more deserving of being newsworthy.

In a furious rant on Twitter which has since been deleted, the 20-year-old DJ wrote: "Really?? Winning the AA award for courage?? Ashton is gonna come out and yell PUNK'D.

"Don't get me wrong. Do what you feel like doing and don't let anyone stop you. But everyone is taking this way too seriously...There are so many more important things that should be talked about...And SO MANY MORE IMPORTANT PEOPLE that actually deserve an award.

"Like the fact that we are overfishing and in 30 years there will be no more fish. Seems dumb but 85 percent of the worlds protein is fish. That's one of thousands of things that should be of a higher importance than what is currently being gone over...Or what about the fact that our planet is becoming less habitable on a daily basis. Yet the population is increasing at an alarming rate...Or the fact that we all can't even get a long on earth lol. We fight and kill each other. We have war and poverty. This needs to change. (sic)"

Despite Snoop and Connor's comments, Caitlyn - whose female persona was revealed in Vanity Fair magazine for the first time this week - has received messages of support from legions of celebrities, including singers Lady Gaga and Sam Smith and actresses Demi Moore and Susan Sarandon.

The 65-year-old reality star broke records by reaching 1 million Twitter followers in four hours - faster than Barrack Obama when he became US President.
