These large lizards have got the slow, creepy walk down to a T.

When you think about travelling to a place like Thailand, you think about the romanticised notion of island life.

You wouldn't find people thinking about coming into contact with any creatures when they visit new places. It's more about the adventure rather than the fear of exploration.

So, to hear that this traveller was not happy to see a Water Monitor walking out of the serene waters of Thailand, was a bit shocking.

We were surprised because most of the time, tourists are amazed to see creatures that they don't usually see. Of course, we get that you didn't sign up for it.

But it's all about the experience, right?

The fact that so many people thought that this large lizard, an Asian Water Monitor, was a Komodo Dragon was an indication of their cluelessness.

Not that we blame them, people associate things with what they know and they don't know the varied differences between a Monitor and a Komodo Dragon.

One person commented, saying: "This post made me sad, cause these generations don’t have Steve Irwin."

Steve Irwin was an adventurer and conservationist who educated people about reptiles in the most entertaining way.

This was an eye-opener for us when it comes to learning about all the species we have in this world and how they can be truly amazing (regardless of their creepy factor).
