POV: Husband tells wife he would date again if she dies
A man shared a conversation he had with his wife about a friend of theirs. It sparked the question as to whether he would date if she ever died, and he honestly said he would.
We are all aware of those red flagged conversations that most couples steer clear from. You know those conversation starters that begin with, "does this outfit make me look fat?" or "does that girl/guy look attractive?".
Stereotypically, these are things that most often end in disaster, in other words an argument that leaves one of you sleeping on the couch.
We believe that sometimes thinking before you speak may help in avoiding a bad ending, alternatively we advise you steer clear from it all together.
A man posted his story to Reddit, saying that his wife and him were having a conversation about their friend who had started dating someone. The friend's wife had passed away three years ago.
The man's wife was saying how disappointed she was in him for moving on so fast. To which he responded: "Everyone processes the loss of a partner differently. I told her that I see no problem with Kevin moving on and I'm sure his wife would want him to be happy again."
We can just see what happened next...
This did not sit well with his wife. She was in disbelief that he felt this way and then the horrid question came...
"What would you do if I ever passed away?"
We will give him props for trying to shift gears here, as he told her that he cannot give a definite answer as he was not planning on that happening. But she persisted...
She continued to probe me and asked if I would ever date again or get re-married. I responded, "Probably. I love you to death and would be heartbroken if you died, but life goes on. I can't stop living my life just because you're gone." She looked drained and said, "Am I really that easy to get over?" I told her, "Honey, that's not what I meant. I'll always have a special place in my heart for you, but that doesn't mean I can't love anyone else. I would want you to move on too if I died." She just stared at the wall and said, "I get it."
Here comes the trump card... his wife is upset over the conversation and won't speak to him. Her sister even called him to give him a talking to for sharing that with her.
Everything is pretty tense at home and his wife is now convinced that he doesn't love her and is waiting for her to die...
