Practicing awareness on the roads: taxi runs a red light
Updated | By Jacaranda FM / Udesha Moodley-Judhoo
It pays to pause when driving...

We are left holding our heads when we witness yet another accident on the streets of South Africa.
The many safety protocols and measures disappear when we see motorists drive recklessly. It takes seconds for an accident to happen, yet it can leave people with a lifetime of regret. Some lose their lives, others are left paralysed or disabled, and the cost of the damages can leave people in debt.
An accident captured on a roadside camera in Cape Town reminded us why we should practice caution on the roads, especially at busy intersections. As drivers, we tend to move as soon as the light turns green.

While the taxi driver is to blame in this scenario, as drivers, we should always be more vigilant of our surroundings and never take things for granted.
People were quick to jump into the comments and blame the taxi driver, and while that may be warranted, there's only one thing we have control over as drivers: our actions.
We hope that motorists learn to practice caution on the roads this school holiday and remain vigilant to their surroundings.
