Weird practice gets you a discount at this Thai restaurant
Updated | By Jacaranda FM/Udesha Moodley-Judhoo
A restaurant in Thailand gives customers a discount based on which of the gate bars they can fit through.

As South Africans, we're known for our ability to negotiate and ask for discounts. Some might be proud of this, while others don't like associating themselves in that way.
Still, it was amusing to see a traveller highlight an unusual activity outside a restaurant in Thailand. While it was likely intended as a lighthearted way to entertain guests, some viewers saw it as body shaming.
In the video, the digital creator, known for sharing her travel experiences, attempts to squeeze through a series of gate bars, each varying in width.
Above each gap is a sign that offers a different discount depending
on which bar you pass through.
The smaller the gap, the higher the discount.
She managed to squeeze through the 15% discount gap – much to the surprise of her friends, who didn’t think she’d make it.
But she proved them wrong, not once, but twice.

While many people found the idea of this activity demeaning, others found it funny.
"What a disgusting discrimination. So any person in a wheelchair, any body builder, any woman with a womanly figure, any elderly who can’t walk straight are not worth a discount? I guess the owners discrimination of overweight people failed big time!"
"I think it's ridiculous and not funny at all. It's body shaming."
"Amusement park rides have size/weight limits. I don't see why a restaurant can't give a discount based on size/weight."
"This is how they should charge on planes."
"The restaurant is called Chiang Mai Breakfast World, and the whole thing is a joke. You don't actually get discounts for fitting through. It's just a fun thing to try. But watching people get so triggered is entertaining."
"If you need a discount in Thailand for food. You’re eating at the wrong place."
