How much do you tip service staff when dining out?

How much do you tip service staff when dining out?

This is a tough one, considering tipping is a standard practice when dining out.

There are those that tip generously, those that tip based on service, and those who despise tipping altogether.

Whether there is another category, we are uncertain, but what we do know is that this is a very sensitive topic.

And the only reason we are entering into it is because we saw a video on TikTok that shows a restaurant bill. The person who made the TikTok blatantly calls out the restaurant for including the 10% tip in the total bill.

And this man was not having it.

Now, we thought it was only fair to mention that according to Safari Guide, a South African safari travel website that offers advice for tourists, it is standard practice to tip your server.

"People working in the service industry in South Africa often rely heavily on tips to make ends meet. Often these people earn either minimum wage or no wages at all, making tips a big part of their monthly income." (Safari Guide)

This is what we know the standard rule of practice to be, tipping your waiter or waitress at least 10% of the value of your bill.

In fact, according to Safari Guide, it is standard practice to tip your waiter or waitress 10% to 20% of the total bill.

The website went on to advise that some establishments automatically include the standard service charge of 10% to larger groups.

However, they noted that "If a standard service charge is charged, it is up to the patron to decide whether or not to add to the tip depending on service." (Safari Guide)

@arcreactor4 This is robbery, restaurants should be paying their own staff and not be making clients pay tips to cover their costs. This is unlawful and unethical. @BROCKA you will never see us again, also to find out you are part of LA Rocca group... I've stopped going there for years and just got reminded of why I'm right #robbery #tips #resturants #poor #tasteless #disgusting #clients #centurycity #capetown #service ♬ Babel - Gustavo Bravetti
