He questioned whether his father was still his father...

Kids aren't big fans of change. We can't say we blame them considering how difficult it is to adapt to change as an adult.
Being forced to adapt to any circumstance is a challenge and we can say confidently that not everyone is resilient enough to transition swiftly.
But, if we have to look at things through the eyes of a child, it can be said that change can be life-altering.
Kids love things that are familiar to them yet mostly enjoy surprises, so, it can be tricky for parents.
For example, physical appearance can be a tricky thing to overcome. A hairstyle change or removing facial hair can be a big change for a child who has imprinted on a loved one based on their appearance.
One child had a difficult time when his father removed his moustache. The child was finding difficulty surrendering to his father as his mind played games with him.
This is an example of 'Object Permanence' and takes us back to the simple game of Peek-A-Boo.
It can be said that the child here was relatively attached to the image of his father, which included a moustache.
So, when the moustache was gone, he was struggling to trust his instincts because all he knew was the image of his father having a moustache.
