Watch what this teacher does when he finds a pupil sleeping
Updated | By The Workzone with Elana Afrika-Bredenkamp
This pupil fell asleep in class and his teacher reacted in the most unlikely of ways.
Students have a way of getting themselves into trouble and as a teacher, you can either get upset about it or deal with it subtly yet with impact.
Being a teacher is not a walk in the park. It takes being mentally strong, having a good spirit when handling diverse pupils, and approaching things from a place of calm.
That can be challenging. A teacher who found one of his pupils asleep in class handled it like a pro.
In the video, we see a young man asleep in his book. He is literally head-on-book, fast asleep.
Then we see his teacher, who is said to be a Business Teacher, sneak up close to him with a rolled-up piece of paper and blow air on him.
What surprised us, besides the fact that the teacher was so calm and playful, was that the entire classroom was silent. It seems gathering students for a cause such as this is always a pro.

It's natural to feel disrespected as a teacher when you see a pupil asleep in class. It's the ego that feels bruised. But it is essential to handle things from a place of calm.
Being gentle and approaching it with sensitivity can make all the difference. It shows the rest of your class what sort of teacher you are and helps the sleeping student because perhaps the circumstances are more profound than what meets the eye.
If you find a student sleeping in class often, it is best to handle the matter privately and chat with that student. Checking in on them and ensuring they get what they need at home can help.
