Year In Review: Entertainment hits and misses
Updated | By MornéJK
2016 was full of hits and misses in the entertainment sector, with celebrities from Hollywood to South Africa either getting it right or failing epically.

We take a look the hits and misses for 2016.
The hits:
Cassper Nyovest: Fill Up Orlando Stadium
Cassper Nyovest took 2016 by storm with two successful concerts, one in the Dome and the other at Orlando Stadium. It all started with a dream to fill up the Dome and after Cassper did that successfully, he moved on to bigger and better goals. In October this year thousands of music lovers got together and although Cassper did not quite fill up Orlando Stadium, the concert was a huge success. The rapper also made the cover of Forbes Africa, as one of the most successful rappers on the continent. As an early Christmas gift he bought himself, not one, but two Bentleys. This year saw Cassper become one of the biggest music personalities in South Africa conquering audiences across the country.

Lira shows the world what she can do
The singer, and coach on the uber popular reality series, The Voice, took the world by storm this year. She announced that she was asked to perform the theme song of the Golden Globe nominated animated movie, Moana. Lira also got asked two produce two more seasons of her reality TV show which show her conquer and making waves in the United States of America. Apart from her very successful year, she also signed up for a second season of the very popular reality TV show, The Voice, which starts airing in January.
Karen Zoid and Bobby van Jaarsveld wows South Africa.
In January of 2016 The Voice SA hit our airwaves and soon Karen Zoid and Bobby van Jaarsveld became house-hold names. The popular Afrikaans personalities broke down barriers catching the hearts of viewers across South Africa. Karen became known as the Queen of Rock in South Africa, while Bobby swooned the ladies with his boyishly good looks and ripped abs. The Voice SA took South Africa by storm, unearthing some of the most talented singers the country has ever seen. The show is returning for a second season in January 2017 with all the coaches Khan Morbee, Karen Zoid, Lira and Bobby van Jaarsveld all returning to guide talented singers to reach their dreams.
The misses:
Trevor Noah won't be heading home for Christmas.
While comedian Trevor Noah made it as the host of the Daily Show, taking America by storm, the failed to return to South Africa as host of the MTV Africa Music Awards due to "laryngitis" and posted an apology on social media. South Africans lashed out at Trevor for not hosting the event, and then came the news that he will be heading to South America this festive season. "I've always wanted to travel and as much as I love South Africa, I won't be spending the festive season with family and friends back home, but I am touring South America," Noah told Jacaranda FM News.
ANN7 disappoints, again
The ANN7 South African Of The Year Awards got axed after they announced that Robin Thicke and Jennifer Lopez would headline the "most prestigious awards in SA." It was not the first time that ANN7 disappointed South Africans, during last year's awards it was announced that Christina Aguilera would headline the event, only to be replaced by Jason Derulo - who insulted South Africans by asking if they could speak any English.
Kanye West and Justin Bieber walk off stage
Being an international superstar can be demanding and some can't seem to deal with the fame that comes along with it. Justin Bieber was booed when he walked off stage at a concert in the United Kingdomw, simply because his fans wouldn't stop screaming. Although the Biebs grew up - musically - in 2016, walking off stage while in the middle of a concert is never a popular move. Kanye West did the same towards the end of 2016 when he was admitted to hospital for "exhaustion and anxiety" after going on a rant against....everybody.
Van Jaarsvelds vs Derick Hougaard
Karlien van Jaarsveld and her ex, Derick Hougaard were embroiled in a very public spat this year, although she never uttered a word on social media. Derrick tweeted that he wanted his ring back after the couple split up, where after Karlien's momager, Ronel Brink replied that she would personally return the ring to him. Brother, Bobby van Jaarsveld also weighed in with a threat, saying Derick had better leave his family alone. It was like the pilot episode of a new reality TV series, Keeping Up With The Van Jaarsvelds.
@derickhougaard Jy praat nie so met my ma en my suster nie. Dit STOP nou! Los nou ons familie uit. Karlien het aanbeweeg. Jy moet ook.

Ek wonder nou. As Karlien die ring teruggee, sal hierdie dan eindig? Indien wel, sal ek persoonlik die ring vir Derick vat. pic.twitter.com/kJBP7kb5ys
