Shell SA Pty. Ltd. Chairman Bonang Mohale is a deeply reflective leader who sees the underlying purpose in participating in The Sun International CEO SleepOut™: “An organisation that only makes profit is indeed a poor company. Companies exist for all sorts of reasons; they exist of course for excellent returns to all their stakeholders, not just their shareholders, but most importantly, they also exist for creating a conducive environment for broader good.”

Want to know how revved up Bonang is for The Sun International CEO SleepOut™? “I will go there in my thermal underwear, knowing that the people we are emulating don’t have thermal underwear! I’ll be wanting to use this time not sleeping, because I think it’s a waste of time! I’ll be talking to my colleagues, to say ‘how do we as a business see as a role towards bringing this government nearer to us” because there is nowhere else in the world where governments have attempted to do the type of social engineering that we desire, require without business and government working closer.”

Bonang is currently Vice President Upstream & Chairman of Shell South Africa (Pty) Limited, where he is Chairman of the boards of Shell South Africa Holdings (Pty) Ltd; Shell Downstream South Africa (Pty) Ltd; Shell South Africa Refinery (Pty) Ltd and South African Petroleum Refinery (SAPREF). He has country responsibilities for the Oil, Chemical, Aviation, Marine and Lubricants global businesses and is operationally accountable for the Retail; Fuels & Bitumen; Supply & Distribution classes of businesses as well as Finance; Legal; HR; Safety (HSSE) and Transformation classes of functions.

Until 31 December 2008, he spent 6 years as the Chief Executive Officer of Drake & Scull FM SA (PTY) Ltd, an integrated Facilities Management company owned by the Tsebo Outsourcing Group, where Bonang was also a member of the Executive Committee (Exco).
